The Ultimate Wedding Checklist

Happy New Year fam,

Welcome back to the McOlivia Wedding Blog!

2019 promises to be a great year and if you’re walking down the aisle this year, then it’s the year you will never forget. That’s exactly why I’ve chosen to equip you with all the information you need to plan your wedding and make it an unforgettable experience for you, your spouse and all of your wedding guests.

Today, let’s discuss The Ultimate Wedding Checklist! What exactly do you need to bear in mind while planning your big day? You probably don’t know where to start from, but don’t worry, I got you covered. I advice you get a dedicated wedding planning diary and check each item off your list as you take care of them.  Ready? Leggo.

 VENUE

First, decide where you’re getting married. If it’s in a church, then understand that there are different requirements for Catholic, Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian and Pentecostal weddings etc. So ask your church what these requirements are and have them sorted in time.

Then after the church joining, where would you be hosting your family and friends? You could decide to have an outdoor or indoor wedding.

There are several options for an outdoor wedding and if you’re blessed with good weather (under his eye), you can get married at the beach, in a park, or a cozy tent.

During the rainy season, you should consider keeping the wedding party indoors. The rules are pretty much the same if you’re having a destination wedding.

When you’ve done all your homework and found a suitable wedding venue, then check Venue off your wedding list.

CATERING

89% of people attend weddings especially for the delicious array of cuisine. (hey, don’t quote me!) Let’s not disappoint their taste buds. You can have a variety of continental, and/or local dishes. Finger foods are usually a great wedding party favorite.

Consider the native favorite of your two families and be sure your wedding menu accommodates vegans, diabetics and other guests you have invited who may have special food needs. The idea is to have a little something that pretty much anyone can munch on while enjoying the beauty of your special day.

Onugbo Soup

You should also schedule appointments with your chosen caterer to decide on your perfect wedding cake!

Details like the number of tiers, the color and design, and more importantly the type of wedding cake should be agreed on. I’m a red velvet kinda girl. Wink!

 DECORATION

Make plans for a decorator who will ensure the wedding venue has the right ambiance for your special day. You should choose a color scheme that you want for your wedding decoration.

One thing that is easily forgotten is the decoration of the wedding car that the couple will use. So, keep that in mind.

MC

The compere/MC is one item you should take care while checking off your wedding list. This is because she sets the tone for your wedding party. You want an emcee who knows how to keep you and your guests entertained without turning your wedding to a comedy show.

If she can get your guests to interact and have a great time, then they would always remember what a pleasant reception you gave.

Be sure to find somebody who will remember to keep the spotlight on you and your spouse. It is, after all, your wedding day. I recommend myself (MC Olivia) for this role, only because I’ve been a wedding MC for 10 years, long enough for me to perfect the art of wedding compering. And you deserve nothing but the best wedding emcee!

MUSIC

Would you rather have a DJ or a Life band playing on your wedding day? If you wish to combine the two, awesome! But you have to agree with your spouse which of them will be playing for your first dance. As simple a decision as it seems, I’ve seen it cause trouble for couples in the ten years I’ve been a wedding emcee.

One time, the groom wanted the life band to play but the bride was tired of all the high-life songs. Her new husband insisted on his preference and she wouldn’t smile for the rest of her special day. It was so sad to watch her sulk. Don’t let that be you!

More importantly, pre-select your wedding playlist. You can make a list of all the songs that hold warm memories for you and your significant other. It would be so magical when you finally hear the songs playing at your wedding reception!

Of course having good sound equipment is the best way to ensure you enjoy the music! So, confirm your venue or DJ has that. If not, arrange for it to be available for your wedding.

That’s the much I can discuss today. I’ll continue in another blog post. Don't miss it, subscribe now. Till then, keep the wedding spirits high and the bridezilla low! If you have comments, suggestions or any questions, please drop them in the comment section and I’d be happy to respond.

Lots of Love,
McOlivia.
