I Have Waited so Long to Say to You 'Be My Maid of Honor, Amaka'

Image
My Rii, Thank you for so many years of unparalleled friendship. No one has come as close as you. You have taught me the true meaning of sisterhood. We have learnt so much together and there is no adventure that you have not been a part of. It happened so fast. One moment, we’re enjoying curry noodles and egg in that tiny room we happily shared for a whole year in the University and the next I’m getting married. It all really happened so fast, the days we would come back tired from fellowship and set alarms to wake and read in the middle of the night, oh how you were such a pest those nights, relentlessly calling till I joined you. But I finally learnt to wake up and do what must be done. Oh, Ray’s definitely a big wake-up! I’m writing this, right now, in the quiet of the night. This night, I want to tell you how much I’ve looked forward to having you with me on my wedding day. We often joked about it in our single days but it’s really happening and a part of me ...

How to be a Maid of Honor 101.

Image
Hello lovelies, Over the past few weeks, I've had the pleasure of proposing to all of my bridesmaids. I wanted it to be special for each of them.  (Check out proposals on previous posts  www.mcoliviaevents.blogspot.com  ). It's been such an adventure and seeing the beautiful smiles on their faces, and the surprise on some, has made it totally worth it. I was truly terrified that someone might say no for some reason but it's been all good so far. From my African friends who have never been to Nigeria before to those who are not even in the continent. Issa Intercontinental Wedding Parry! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ. The funny thing is, I've never had the privilege of being part of any bridal train because no girlfriend of mine ever asked me. I was always asked to be the MC on their special days, downside of being a great Wedding MC. While it is ๐Ÿ’ฏ fun, I can't help the ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ feeling that now I'd never know what it feels like to be a bridesmaid, EVER! So, ...

You're the Best Gift Mummy Gave Me. Come Bother Me Baby, Be My Bridesmaid Vivian!

Image
B nwa, I have loved you since before you were born. And our friendship began while you were still a foot stamped against mummy's womb and I would try to grab you and trace out your entire figure. You came into my life and took all the attention, but you gave it all back with so much affection. Watching you grow has been one of my greatest joys in life. From being your guardian in primary/secondary schools and University to being your agent when you chose modeling. And that's the crazy thing, you managed to grow beyond the very little girl you once were to this tall shapely queen that I can't even conveniently knock again. Sigh. You've come out way better than I could ever have imagined. Exceptionally creative, Godly, smart and just plain awesome! And you finished that course and even got your own job. My astronomer baby that will take me to the moon. I'm so proud of you and what you've accomplished in your young life. I will miss you. But I'm so gl...

Beyond friendship, will you be my bridesmaid Uche?

Image
My dear Utchay, In these weeks that we've discussed locations and dresses, and you've been very particular about finding a theme that reflects my relationship perfectly, I realize I want you for keeps. You know what love is because you know God. My fiancรฉ is Uche, so there must be something special about you too. I've felt it over the years, every time you have shared in my success online. And every time you have pushed forward in your career or reached out to help humanity stand tall. What you must know is that while some friendships are by chance, my best friendships are by choice. And I choose you. You are dedicated, kind and smart. My kind of woman! You've eluded me for so long, and although we were next door neighbors for an entire school year, we didn't maximize our friendship. Finally, here's an excellent opportunity for us to start over again. You already know I'm getting married and every bride needs something new for her wedding day, I w...

My Childhood Friend. Be My Bridesmaid Dera!

Image
Dera, My fair sister. It is still a mystery how our sisterhood started. All I remember is how classmates started calling you my sister in FGCE, more than ten years ago. It was a joke, at first, till you made me proud by passing Jamb and joining me in the University of Nigeria. When our roommates concluded we were sisters, there was no going back. We became sisters for life. Our friendship has grown through the years, from the days you were my emergency stylist, to the time we shot skits together. You've always been there for me. It's funny how even now that we've become adults, I am still just as fond of you as I've always been. You'll always be the first girl that ever got through to me, from being neighbors, to friends and now sisters. You're my favorite childhood friend, my only childhood friend actually. The most caring and generous one. And I'm so proud of the lady that you are now. My Physiotherapist. ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜. Dera, remember when I used to blu...

You're a Friend for a Lifetime! Will You be my Bridesmaid Peppy?

Image
Hey pretty girl, Everybody needs a Peppy in their life, I'm glad you're in mine, and oh so miraculously. I guess you never knew how we became friends. I'll tell you. One day, a certain medical doctor visited me at the TV Station where I worked in Enugu state. At the end of his visit, he recommended you. He said 'Olivia, you'd really like Peppy, you guys are so alike and have similar interests, and you post about nearly the same stuff on Facebook, I wonder how you were never friends all these years'. He was so sure we'd hit it off and it's been a few years since his visit and he has never been more right about anything. Your friendship is golden. It took a mutual friend to wake me up to what had been right before me for ten whole years. We went to Federal Government College Enugu for 6 years, we were too distracted to notice each other. Then destiny tried her match making skills on us for 4 years in the University of Nigeria, and we totally ignored ...

Will you Be My Bridesmaid Esi? I want to 'Sabi Cook' your Ghanaian Wakye.

Image
Esi, I did not know why I was drawn to you at first. Then came our creative night at the President Obama Young African Leaders Initiative at GIMPA. That night, as you shook the entire room with war cries and led our great army of men, delivering us into great victory, my eyes were opened. In directing the story of Nana Yaa Asantewaa of the Ashanti Empire, it was clear to me that we needed a unique character. You appeared an unlikely choice for a Warrior Queen Mother because you were the smallest in our Rokel River group, but I dare say you are the bravest. It was on that day while thunderous ovation rent the air after our performance that I really took interest in you. And in following the work you fearlessly do for the true freedom of Young African Girls, I have come to know that you are indeed the Nana Yaa Asantewaa of our time, hero of the Girl Child. It's exactly one year since I met you in your beautiful home country, Ghana. In that time, I have seen you take on contro...
