Classic Naija & Foreign Wedding Songs

Hey lovelies,

Your wedding day is drawing close, you’ve dreamt of the perfect day. Your bridesmaids are all pretty, the venue’s been reserved, you found the perfect bouquet, Naija jollof rice is on your menu, and your man has even agreed to wear a pink tie, lol. One thing remains; you’ve still not found that magical song that would turn your first dance with le boo into a living fantasy. That song that captures your entire relationship and tells the story of your love for each other. Well, don’t stress it. I gat you!

So, in my work as an M.C, I’ve encountered some really embarrassing dance moments for a couple.
Now, I usually advice couples to make a list of favorite songs they'd love to hear on their wedding day and ensure the DJ has them before the day.
This one time, it was time for the couple’s first dance. The couple told me they’d requested a special song for their first dance. But when I signaled the D.J to play their special song, I nearly had a heart attack. In a room filled with ministers, children and relatively decent people, the sound of a club-friendly thug song rent the air, with too many f*** words than I care to remember. Fortunately, I was able to reach the DJ and quickly disconnect the sound. Phew. The best part was that the parents didn’t even realize what was going on. The bride was pale though. I was able to react so swiftly because my years editing music as a radio D.J had taught me to pick out lyrics from a song quickly. It would have been a major disaster though, especially because the bride’s father was a Pastor. Eventually, to avoid wasting more time, they had to settle for Michael Jackson’s ‘Liberian Girl’ for their first dance. Epic fail. The thing pain me personally.

So, I made a post on my facebook page and had my friends comment their favorite wedding songs. I took the time to listen and compile a list of amazing songs for a couple’s first dance, the father daughter dance and all the dance for the entire wedding. And they are clean edits so you won’t be blushing unduly on your special day. Lol.

I’m gonna share the list with you. You’ll find the songs guaranteed to pull the heartstrings of even the coldest hearts at your ceremony. More importantly, I’ve added some Naija jamz to make this list appropriate for a Nigerian wedding. Enjoy and have a beautiful wedding ceremony.
